Paul Merson says Brennan Johnson’s transfer to Tottenham Hotspur will ‘suit’ the player and Ange Postecoglou’s side.

Daniel Levy always loves a transfer on deadline day, well, it seems as though Tottenham will be bringing in, at least, one today, with Brennan Johnson heading to Hotspur Way from Nottingham Forest.

The 22-year-old has made huge strides during these past few seasons, with Merson stating that it’s a ‘good signing’ for Tottenham and he is someone who will ‘only get better’, as he told Deadline Day on Sky Sports (01/09/23 at 2:30 pm).

After losing star man Harry Kane, Spurs needed to boost their forward line in order to replace the serious amount of goals they are losing from the England captain.

And whilst Johnson isn’t a direct replacement for the now-Bayern Munich star, he is someone who will only add to a forward line that is trying to move on from the Kane era.

Upon hearing of the Johnson news, it was backed by Merson, who likes the deal and how it suits all parties.

“It’s definitely a good move for the player,” said Merson. “It’s a top club, Tottenham. A great stadium. It’s a big pitch. It will suit his skills and it will suit Tottenham.

“Tottenham want to spread the game. I don’t see too many willing to run without the ball at Tottenham. He does and he will spread the game and open it up for others to get on the ball in midfield.

“I think it’s a good signing for Tottenham, I really do. He has got plenty of pace and he will only get better, the kid.”

Competiton for Richarlison

The Brazil star has struggled during his time at the club following his club-record transfer last summer.

Whilst Richarlison scored during Spurs’ EFL Cup defeat against Fulham on Tuesday, he only has one Premier League goal to his name.

Well, with the possible arrival of Johnson, he will provide competition and allow Ange Postecoglou to play the versatile forward down the middle.
