Darren Moore has backed Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Everton playmaker Alex Iwobi to secure deadline-day moves to Fulham.

It seems as though Marco Silva’s side are set to lose their dominant midfield star Joao Palhinha, who is heading to Bayern Munich, with Moore adding that it’s ‘good business’ for the club, as he told Deadline Day on Sky Sports (01/09/23 at 11:05 am).

If that happens, then it could open the door for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, who has fallen out of favour under new Tottenham boss, Ange Postecoglou, to head for the exit door and Moore added that it’s ‘nothing against’ the player in question.

As for Alex Iwobi, the former Arsenal man could now partner Hojbjerg at Craven Cottage, with the Everton star being described as an ‘exciting prospect’.

Either way, these next few hours are huge for all clubs involved, with the possible exits of two senior players at Hotspur Way and Goodison Par opening the door for those teams to bring in more players or balance the books.

Nonetheless, former Sheffield Wednesday boss Moore is backing the deals to go through.

“The key to it is that Palhinha has gone over to Munich now,” said Moore. “The only reason he has gone is because Fulham has got somebody else coming in.

“By the report, it sounds like Hojbjerg. For Palhinha to do a big-money move that’s going to happen today, it’s interesting that Hojbjerg will come in. It’s a big signing. It’s a big deal to do on transfer deadline day. But it looks like there is time and the deal can get done.

“Different dynamics to the team,” said Moore on Hojbjerg’s situation at Spurs. “Ange could be setting up Tottenham in a way where Hojbjerg’s looking at starting games, so it’s nothing against him, it’s probably just the different dynamics. Looking back at the Fulham deal, for Palhinha, it’s good business. It’s a profit again. And they are signing another great midfield player in Hojbjerg.

“And, if Alex Iwobi is signing, then he is another exciting prospect. You can see the business being done by Fulham.”

Right for Hojbjerg to leave, but Everton should keep Iwobi

In terms of Tottenham, they are advancing into a new style of play under Postecoglou and someone like Hojbjerg isn’t suited to that, so it’s understandable if he goes.

As for Everton, surely, in their current troubles, it’s best they keep hold of a player like Iwobi, who has been one of their better players.

The versatility in his game, ability to carry the ball from deep and provide immense work without the ball, is surely worth keeping, unless they have to sell him for FFP reasons.
