Brentford believed they could beat Liverpool to the signing of Johan Bakayoko – and they are now close to landing the PSV Eindhoven star.
Liverpool look set to miss out on signing PSV Eindhoven winger Johan Bakayoko with Brentford now nearing a deal.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who claims that Brentford are now ‘closing in’ on signing Bakayoko.
It’s stated that an official bid was submitted by Brentford today, worth up to a huge €40million (£35million).
That figure includes add-ons whilst PSV will also have a sell-on clause as part of the deal.
Romano adds that the move is now at at the stage of ‘final details’ with a deal now imminent.
Bakayoko helped PSV advance into the Champions League group stage on Wednesday, ripping Rangers apart in Eindhoven.
Yet rather than stay and play Champions League football with PSV, Bakayoko is nearing a move to join Brentford instead.

Liverpool to miss out on Johan Bakayoko
TEAMtalk reported on Wednesday that Brentford had opened talks over a deal to bring Bakayoko to West London.
That report added that Brentford really believed they would beat Burnley and Liverpool to Bakayoko’s signature,
That belief appears to have been rewarded with Bakayoko now closing in on a move to join Daniel Farke’s side.
Dutch reporter Rik Elfrink reported just a couple of weeks ago that Liverpool had enquired about a deal for Bakayoko.

That seems a little surprising but there have been huge rumours surrounding Mohamed Salah potentially moving to Saudi Arabia.
Bakayoko is a right-sided winger who loves to cut inside onto his left foot – just like Salah.
Throwing Bakayoko into a role as Salah’s replacement would have been bold but Liverpool seemingly saw big potential in the 20-year-old.
Brentford have now moved in and look poised to pip Liverpool to his signature in a hugely exciting move for the Bees.
