Leeds United are showing a late interest in snapping up Celtic playmaker Matt O’Riley ahead of the transfer deadline.

Celtic midfielder Matt O’Riley is wanted by Leeds United and Southampton with the transfer deadline fast approaching.

That is according to Sky Sports, who claim that O’Riley is just one of a number of players Leeds want to sign before the deadline.

Daniel Farke is desperate to bring in new faces this week in order to seriously boost the Leeds squad.

Midfielders seem to be the key focus and O’Riley is now a prime target for Farke and co in the final days of the window after seemingly missing out on Bayer Leverkusen’s Nadiem Amiri.

Southampton’s interest will be a concern though given O’Riley’s connection to Saints boss Russell Martin.

O’Riley signed for Martin at MK Dons, playing a starring role having left Fulham.

Martin wanted to bring O’Riley to Swansea City but the midfielder chose a January 2022 move to Celtic instead.

Martin and O’Riley could finally reunite this time – if Southampton can see off the interest from Leeds.

Leeds United could complete double Glasgow raid with Matt O’Riley deal

O’Riley to Leeds would see the Whites raid both of Glasgow’s massive clubs.

The Herald claim that Rangers midfielder Glen Kamara is now on the verge of a £5million move to Elland Road.

Leeds have been linked with Kamara all summer and Farke looks set to finally secure his signature.

O’Riley could be next though as Leeds look to build a new midfield.

It’s just a year since ESPN reported that Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United all wanted to sign O’Riley from Celtic.

O’Riley managed four goals and 14 assists last season and yet those lofty rumours have calmed down and he’s now being linked with a Championship move.

It’s certainly hard to see Liverpool coming back in for O’Riley right now even if the Reds may still be keeping tabs on him.

Jurgen Klopp and co are desperate to land another midfielder before the transfer deadline but O’Riley surely won’t be their man.

Liverpool want a holding midfielder rather than a playmaker and the option of a move to Anfield seems to have faded away for O’Riley.

Hailed as ‘brilliant’ by pundit Kris Boyd, O’Riley could be an enormous coup for Leeds in the coming days – but he surely won’t come cheap.
