Tottenham Hotspur look set to miss out on Ansu Fati with the Barcelona winger now on the verge of joining Brighton and Hove Albion instead.

Ange Postecoglou made a phone call to Ansu Fati but the Barcelona ace is now expected to snub a move to Tottenham Hotspur.

COPE reporter Helena Condis claimed earlier this evening (Wednesday) that Fati to Tottenham was ’99% done’ and only a signature was needed.

Condis claimed that Spurs boss Postecoglou called Fati and told him that he would be an important player in the Tottenham side.

It was added that Fati would be travelling to North London on Thursday in order to complete his move ahead of the transfer deadline.

However, Tottenham appear to have been hijacked.

Fabrizio Romano now reports that Brighton and Hove Albion are ‘closing in’ on signing Fati.

It’s stated that Barcelona have accepted a loan offer from the Seagulls and Fati has agreed to the move.

Roberto De Zerbi has made a big push and Fati is now expected to become a Brighton player soon.

Tottenham surely focusing all efforts on Brennan Johnson

Tottenham have been trying to sign a versatile forward who can play all across the front line.

Gift Orban from Gent had been linked but the top target has been Nottingham Forest attacker Brennan Johnson.

A move for the Welshman has been in the works for days with even Forest expecting a deal to be done before the transfer deadline.

Tottenham were seemingly moving for Fati as an alternative option given the huge money needed to sign Johnson.

The London Evening Standard suggested that Barcelona wanted Fati to join Tottenham but his £200,000-a-week wages were a problem.

It’s unclear just how much of that will be paid by Brighton now but Fati’s decision to snub Spurs means Johnson becomes the clear focus again.

There are just about 48 hours of the window to go now and Tottenham need to move quickly in order to secure a deal for Johnson with Fati now off the table.
