Ian Wright thinks Richarlison needs to ‘calm down’ if he wants to find his goalscoring form for Tottenham.

Ange Postecoglou’s side recorded a 2-0 win at Bournemouth on Saturday, with Richarlison starting for the third Premier League game in a row, but failing to score.

It has been a real struggle for Tottenham’s club-record signing and Wright thinks he is ‘trying too hard’, as he told Premier League Productions (28/08/23 at 2:40 pm).

The positive he needs to look at is that he isn’t costing his team and it’s still early days under Postecoglou – Peter Schmeichel thinks he has changed since being sold by Everton.

Yes, the 26-year-old’s debut campaign at Hotspur Way was one to forget, but that was under a defensive-minded coach and a team on the decline.

With an attack-minded coach now at Hotspur Way, added to the XI being refreshed, it won’t be too long before he is finding the back of the net again, with Wright sharing his thoughts.

“I think, with Richarlison up front, if you can get Brennan Johnson, then you can get the Richarlison that went to Everton when he started to really do his stuff.

“Then, maybe, you can get those 10-12 goals out of him – I think Richarlison is trying too hard. He just needs to calm down. Harry Kane isn’t there. They haven’t got the centre-forward, so you stay fit, then you are going to play.

“So, stay calm. You probably might need the manager to say ‘just relax and play. I am going to play you in the games’, then he will just build himself into the games.”

Tottenham to bring in Brennan Johnson?

Spurs are pushing for the Nottingham Forest star, Wright has already shared why he thinks the Welshman will be a ‘perfect’ signing.

Johnson can play across the front three, his preference is either to play on the right or down the middle.

Either way, if the Forest academy star does join, then that’s another name being added to the forward line and more pressure being put on Richarlison.
