Arsenal striker Folarin Balogun does not want to stay at Arsenal this summer.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano.
Folarin Balogun has been heavily linked with a move away from Arsenal during this transfer window, and Romano says he is not keen on sticking around amid interest from the likes of AS Monaco and Chelsea. In his CaughtOffside column, the Italian journalist said: “Monaco remain favourites and they are considering to return with new bid.
“Chelsea, meanwhile, spoke to the player’s agent but didn’t send any bid as of today.”
Romano also went on to add: “All top clubs need also to sell and Balogun doesn’t want to stay so it’s the correct decision to let him go.”
Gabriel Jesus is currently out injured but, even so, Balogun has not featured for Arsenal yet this season, suggesting that he could very well be on his way out of the Emirates.
Chelsea could be a great move for Folarin Balogun
You cannot really see Balogun turning down the chance to play for Chelsea. They are one of the biggest clubs in the country and he is likely to get game time there.
There is not too much competition up front at Stamford Bridge right now, with Nicolas Jackson currently leading the line for the Blues.
After scoring 21 goals in 37 Ligue 1 appearances for Reims last season, Balogun will fancy his chances of becoming Mauricio Pochettino’s first-choice striker.
There are a lot of ifs here, though, such as if Arsenal would actually be willing to sell the USA international to one of their rivals.
If so, the price could be £50m, with the Evening Standard claiming that the north London club want that figure for him.
It is a lot of money, but perhaps this could be a transfer where all parties win. Arsenal get a big fee for their player, Chelsea obtain a No.9 who can add a bit more firepower to their squad and Balogun joins a side who can offer him more opportunities.
