Michael Owen and Glenn Hoddle heaped praise on Luis Diaz for his ‘absolutely stunning’ goal during Liverpool’s 3-1 win over Bournemouth on Saturday at Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp’s were under the cosh from the get-go against the Cherries, who had a goal disallowed inside the first minute for offside, before they eventually and deservedly opened the scoring minutes later.
Whilst Mohamed Salah’s goal after his penalty was saved meant that Liverpool went into the break with a 2-1 lead, it was Luis Diaz who had initially levelled the score in a goal described as ‘stunning’ and ‘top-quality’ by Michael Owen and Glenn Hoddle, as they told Premier League Productions (19/08/23 at 3:55 pm).
It was the quite amazing improvisation from the all-action forward, as the ball was played across the box by Diogo Jota, that made the goal look so good, as he proceeded to flick the ball up in the air and volley it into the back of the net.
That’s two in two for Diaz, who for a large chunk of last season, was on the sidelines with an injury, but now he is back to his very best.
That’s why he was getting plaudits from two of the very best in the game in Michael Owen and Glenn Hoddle.

“Oh, this is stunning,” said Owen. “Absolutely stunning. First of all, I love the run by Mo Salah. He creates a really nice big gap between the Bournemouth defence here.
“Then Jota could make his run inside. It’s really good off-the-ball running – I think it’s a fabulous goal. Absolutely brilliant.”
Glenn Hoddle added: “Top-quality. He has actually flicked it up for himself. Top-top quality.”

Diaz can hit near the 20-goal mark
Liverpool’s wide players of the past have always been the main source of goal threat because of how Klopp sets the team up, that’s why the likes of Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane have had field days over the years.
But now it’s Diaz’s chance to sing and dance by proving that he can hit close to the 20-goal Premier League goal mark.
As he proved against Bournemouth, he has all types of goals in his locker, the way he can score simple goals, but also make goals for himself is a rare talent and it will take the £56k-a-week star (Spotrac) a long way.
