Hugo Lloris is now considering a U-turn and staying at Tottenham Hotspur to the end of his contract having rejected a transfer to Lazio, despite the sides agreeing to terms.
That is according to L’Equipe, which reports that Tottenham had accepted Lazio’s bid for the transfer of Lloris. But the 36-year-old does not want to go to Rome as he refuses to fight for his place. Biancocelesti boss Maurizio Sarri declined to offer the goalkeeper any assurances.
Lazio already have an established No1 between their sticks at the Stadio Olimpico with Ivan Provedel. The 29-year-old featured in all 38 of their Serie A matches last season and played all but eight minutes. Sarri replaced Toma Basic early on in their first game of the campaign.

Tottenham goalkeeper Hugo Lloris rejects a transfer to Lazio
The idea of fighting Provedel for the starting position at Lazio this season was enough to see Lloris reject the transfer from Tottenham. Spurs had just accepted the Biancocelesti’s bid for his services. Lloris is no longer a part of their side after sharing his wish for a new challenge.
Ange Postecoglou fully intends to trust Guglielmo Vicario after his transfer to north London from Empoli. So, Tottenham had hoped to reach an agreement to sell Lloris and remove his £110k-a-week salary from their bill. The veteran Frenchman is also out of contract in 2024.

Hugo Lloris is tempted to leave as a free agent in June 2024
But having now rejected Lazio’s interest, Lloris is considering rejecting any further offers for a transfer from Tottenham this summer. Instead, he is considering the idea of seeing out the final year of his deal having already turned down offers in England, Europe and Saudi Arabia.
Lloris does not rule out holding off on a move to become a free agent next summer. He has been at Tottenham since August 2012 and has enjoyed 447 appearances since leaving Lyon. But his form fell away last term and made numerous errors that infuriated Graeme Souness.
“I am not a big fan,” Souness told Sky Sports after Lloris’ mistake gifted Aston Villa a goal in January. “I’ve said it for a long time. He’s made four errors leading to goals since the start of last season, the most of any keeper in the league. For me, he is past his sell-by date.”
