Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal could reportedly be about to miss out on the signing of Manchester City full-back Joao Cancelo to Barcelona.

Arsenal reportedly want to bring Joao Cancelo to the Emirates Stadium in the summer transfer window, but, according to Fabrizio Romano, the Manchester City full-back wants to move to Barcelona instead.

Joao Cancelo stance on Barcelona blow for Arsenal

The Italian journalist has reported on Twitter that the Portugal international wants to move to Barcelona, and that it is only a matter of time before a deal is done.

City, who won the Premier League, the FA Cup and the UEFA Champions League last season, are in advanced talks with La Liga champions Barcelona over a potential deal for the £180,000-a-week (SalarySport) 29-year-old Portugal international full-back.

Cancelo spent the second half of last season on loan at Bayern Munich from City.

The full-back’s reported stance on Barcelona will come as a blow for Arsenal.

The Gunners are reportedly keen on a deal for the former Juventus star.

90min reported this week that Arsenal are trying to sign Cancelo and have spoken to the 29-year-old’s representatives.

Jurrien Timber is injured at the moment, and a player of Cancelo’s quality and experience would compensate for his absence.

However, it seems that Cancelo wants to move to Barcelona instead.

And we are not surprised to hear that at all.

After all, Barcelona are one of the biggest clubs in the world who won the La Liga title last season and will aim to win the UEFA Champions League in the coming years.

Cancelo has made 98 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

The full-back has scored five goals, given 11 assists and kept 41 clean sheets in those games.
