Wolves have joined Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest in seeing a bid rejected by Corinthians with the Brazilian outfit demanding £17 million for centre-half Murillo.

A solid, well-drilled performance in Monday unlucky 1-0 defeat at Manchester United hardly gave the impression that Gary O’Neil’s Wolves are a team in need of defensive reinforcements. Craig Dawson and Max Kilman were superb at Old Trafford after all.

But, beyond the aforementioned duo, Wolves’ centre-half options look worryingly bare. Following the departures of Nathan Collins and Conor Coady to Brentford and Leicester City respectively, Toti Gomes is the only other centre-half at O’Neil’s disposal as things stand.

And, with talks regarding Borussia Monchengladbach’s Nico Elvedi hitting an impasse, Wolves have set their sights on 21-year-old Murillo. Though, like with Elvedi, agreeing a deal for the talented Brazilian may be easier said than done.

Wolves and Nottingham Forest fail with Murillo bids

Goal Brazil reports that Wolves have seen their £10 million bid rejected. Corinthians want closer to £17 million, though the publication believes that bids in the region of £13 million may also be considered.

This comes just days after UOL reported that Nottingham Forest had also seen an offer turned down. Forest enjoyed some success delving into the Brazilian market in January – signing Danilo and Gustavo Scarpa from Palmeiras – and obviously believe there is further value to be found in South America.

Reporter Jorge Nicola, however, believes that there are currently long odds on Murillo departing before September’s transfer deadline. The youngster only made his senior debut a few months ago. And, Nicola adds, he is ‘happy’ playing regular first-team football with Corinthians.

“Many people are speculating that Murillo will leave the Timao. I spoke to someone close to the defender. I can tell you that the chance of him leaving is very small,” Nicola says on his YouTube channel.

“Corinthians will not sell him for less than 20 million euros.”

Nicola adds that Aston Villa and Manchester City are also interested.
