Hugo Lloris is ready to accept a £50,000-a-week contract at Lazio but Maurizio Sarri could still ki-bosh a move to Serie A for Tottenham Hotspur’s Premier League veteran.
When Guglielmo Vicario touched down in North London over a month ago, an emotional farewell to the club he represented for over a decade felt imminent for veteran shot-stopper Hugo Lloris.
It certainly feels unlikely that either Tottenham Hotspur or the player himself expected to still be awaiting an offer by the final fortnight of the summer window. Reports linking Lloris with a move to Saudi Arabia or a return to France have grown cold. And while the World Cup winning former France international is open to a move to Italy, Lazio boss Maurizio Sarri has his reservations.

Hugo Lloris in Tottenham Hotspur limbo
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Lloris is ‘ready’ to accept a £50,000-a-week deal at the Biancocelesti. Lazio’s former Chelsea, Juventus and Napoli boss, however, has concerns about the deal.
He reportedly fears an unhealthy relationship between Lloris and Lazio’s current number one, Ivan Provodel. The Tottenham veteran, after all, would earn around £1 million-a-year more than the man he will be in direct competition with for a starting spot at the Stadio Olimpico.
That is not to say a solution cannot be found, of course.
Gazzetta add that Lazio president Claudio Lotito is considering handing Provodel a sizeable pay rise. Thus, putting he and Lloris on a similar level, wage-wise.

Heart-stopper Vicario has nervy Tottenham start
Lloris was not part of the Tottenham squad for Sunday’s 2-2 draw at Brentford. Vicario made his Premier League debut in goal, with Brandon Austin on the bench.
Vicario joined from Empoli in a £17 million deal. But whether he can emulate Lloris’ longevity and leadership at the back remains to be seen. The Italian certainly caused a few heart flutters among the travelling fans at Brentford; the odd misplaced pass and the occasional flap indicating that Spurs fans will have to take the rough with the smooth with their new number one.
