Manchester United defender Harry Maguire looks likely to stay at Old Trafford this summer instead of joining West Ham United or another club.
That is according to journalist Alex Crook.
Discussing Harry Maguire‘s future on talkSPORT, Crook said: “The indication that I’m getting from sources at Manchester United is that Erik ten Hag wants Harry Maguire to stay. He wants him to fight for his place; he’s said as much publicly.”
The reporter later went on to add: “At the moment, it looks like he’ll stay.”
As per Sky Sports, West Ham‘s deal to sign Maguire has fallen through and it now looks unlikely that it will be resurrected in this transfer window.
Harry Maguire should have joined West Ham
Maguire is making a mistake by not moving to West Ham. That is certainly the case if the 30-year-old wants regular game time this season, something that he is just not going to get at Old Trafford.
Ten Hag is clearly set on his current central defensive partnership, the combination of Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez.
The England international also has to compete against Victor Lindelof, so he is not in the best position at Old Trafford right now.

With that in mind, then, a switch to West Ham could have been perfect for him, especially with the Euros coming up.
Maguire would have got to work with a good coach in David Moyes and the chance to play in Europe after the Hammers managed to qualify for the Europa League last season.
The above is surely better than sitting on United’s bench for another year? In Maguire’s eyes, maybe not, otherwise he would have jumped at the chance to join West Ham.
For whatever reason, though, it is not a move he is keen on, leaving Moyes needing to look elsewhere in his bid to improve his side’s defence.
