Tyrone Mings has thanked Aston Villa and Newcastle United fans for their support after he suffered a ‘serious’ knee injury at St James’ Park on Saturday.
The England international will now be out of action for a ‘lengthy’ period of time, with Aston Villa confirming the details of his injury via their website on Monday morning.
The incident happened in the first half as Tyrone Mings chased the ball down the flanks, alongside Alexander Isak, before falling in an awkward manner.
It was pretty much obvious straightaway that something serious had happened, so whilst the news about his injury today was unfortunate, it was what fans were fearing.
When Mings was stretched off by the medical staff, the Newcastle fans, along with the away support, gave the centre-back a standing ovation.
And it’s something he acknowledged when sending out the following message to supporters.

“I don’t even know where to start but to say thank you for all of your messages of support Villa fans,” said Mings.
“From the day I came here on loan I’ve given everything on the pitch, I’ll now give everything off the pitch to come back even better, whilst supporting the team.
“To the players, fans & staff connected to @NUFC. I also want to say thank you. The applause, the messages & the medical support I received on the day was really appreciated.”
Horror week for Aston Villa
These long-term injuries are a curse on Villa because that’s two in one week and it seems as though there is one every season now.
Last season, after just two games, summer signing Diego Carlos did his Achilles, not forgetting that Wesley and Tom Heaton suffered long-term injuries when Villa returned to the Premier League and never played for the club again.
Now, this week, Emi Buendia, ‘suffered a significant knee ligament injury’ in training and will also be out of action for a long period, as the club confirmed on their website. It’s the cruel part of the game and Villa have been dealt the worst of it.
