‘The info’: Sky reporter has bad transfer news for West Ham & Newcastle fans on ‘key’ player

Dharmesh Sheth has claimed that West Ham United and Newcastle United transfer target Scott McTominay is set to ‘remain’ at Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United this summer.

The transfer expert shared that Manchester United see the Scotland international as a ‘key member of the squad’ ahead of the new Premier League season.

This is despite, both West Ham United and Newcastle United, expressing interest in the hard-hitting midfielder as they bid to bulk up their squads.

Scott McTominay isn’t first-choice at Old Trafford because of Casemiro, but despite the Hammers previously putting in a bid of ‘£30 million’ for the player, Sheth reported that he is valued much higher than that, as he told The Transfer Show on Sky Sports (09/08/23 at 7:25 pm).

Whilst Manchester United hold that view, another report suggested that the Magpies, who will be playing Champions League football next season, could go back in for the 26-year-old later on in the window.

All in all, with Man United viewing McTominay as a ‘key’ player and suggestions that he will ‘stay’, then it’s bad news for those at the London Stadium and St James’ Park.

“Staying with West Ham,” said Sheth. “When they made a £30 million bid for Harry Maguire, they also made a £30 million bid for Scott McTominay as well.

“He was one of their primary targets. They haven’t gone back in yet with an improved offer to Manchester United. The information we were getting, with the Maguire deal, it was much closer to what Manchester United were looking for.

“Whereas the gap in valuation for Man United wanted and what West Ham were prepared to pay for Scott McTominay, was quite large, hence why they focused their attention on James Ward-Prowse.

“As it stands, we think that Scott McTominay will remain at Manchester United, unless a bigger offer comes in. They aren’t pushing McTominay out of the club. They still see him as a key member of that squad.”

West Ham and Newcastle to remain busy?

You would imagine as the 2023 summer transfer window edges closer to slamming shut that both West Ham and Newcastle will be busy.

First and foremost, those in East London have only added in one player since Declan Rice’s exit – Edson Alvarez – so, expect to be one of the busiest.

But, just like Newcastle, they have European football to contend with and their squads need bulking up, or else, it could be a key reason behind them faltering ahead of the new campaign.
