Kevin Campbell has been left wowed by Arsenal new boy Jurrien Timber and claimed that he has ‘played his way’ into Mikel Arteta’s first XI.

The 22-year-old joined from Ajax this summer and Campbell says he is going to be a ‘sensational player’ for Arsenal, as he told The Highbury Squad.

On Sunday, as Arsenal beat Manchester City to win the Community Shield via a penalty shootout, Jurrien Timber impressed many with his performances, from left-back.

In pre-season, he played as a right-back, last season at Ajax he was a centre-back and now he is working his magic as a left-sided fullback.

This is the Dutch star just showing a small glimpse of his game as Arsenal fans get very excited by the new player that has entered their building.

One man that has certainly been left impressed is Campbell, who thinks Arsenal have signed an ‘absolute star’.

“I think he adds an athleticism and a different way of looking at how a fullback plays,” said Campbell. “He has some qualities that Zinchenko and Tierney don’t have.

“I think he has played his way into the first XI. There will be times when he doesn’t play and there are going to be times when he probably relives Ben White, or he is sitting on the bench.

“But I think we have signed an absolute star in Timber. I think he is going to be a sensational player.”

Timber’s performances shouldn’t be a surprise

The likes of Declan Rice and Kai Havertz were the ones getting most of the noise this summer, but in truth, more of the spotlight should have been aimed at Timber.

Given his ability to play across the back four, if he can produce high-quality performances like that in all of those positions, then Mikel Arteta has made a genius move here.

Arsenal’s defence and lack of quality was a big reason behind them stumbling last season for the Premier League title, well, Timber might just be about to change all of that.
