Chelsea are keen to snap up Tyler Adams and may now activate the Leeds United midfielder’s release clause.

Leeds United now look set to lose midfielder Tyler Adams with Chelsea on the verge of activating his release clause.

That is according to the Daily Mail, who claim that Chelsea are now ramping up their move to sign Leeds midfielder Adams.

It’s stated that Chelsea are desperate to add midfield competition and are ready to pounce for Adams.

That’s no surprise given that Jorginho, N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have left Chelsea in recent times.

The Blues need to add numbers in the middle of the park and have now identified Adams as a potential signing.

The report claims that Chelsea are now willing to pay the £20million release clause believed to be in Adams’ contract.

It’s added that Aston Villa are also interested in Adams but he prefers a move to Chelsea this summer.

Tyler Adams can give Chelsea a defensive presence

We can understand if Chelsea fans are maybe a little underwhelmed by signing a player who suffered relegation with Leeds.

Not many Leeds players impressed last season as they dropped out of the Premier League.

Adams was impressive though and was hailed as a ‘special’ player by former Leeds boss Jesse Marsch.

The 24-year-old was an effective defensive player, showing outstanding work rate to get around the pitch and shut down attacks, earning comparisons to N’Golo Kante from Ian Wright.

Chelsea may well see similar potential in Adams and £20million would be a snip if he can get even close to the same kind of impact.

Add in that Todd Boehly would surely love an American player at Chelsea – especially with Christian Pulisic gone – and we can understand why the Blues are exploring this move.
