Monchi has held discussions over Levante defender Marc Pubill but Aston Villa have reportedly ruled out bringing the Spaniard to the Premier League this summer.

That is according to Super Deporte

Aston Villa like Marc Pubill. They really like him. Former Sevilla chief Monchi, the club’s new President of Football Operations and a man renowned as one of the most insightful talentspotters in Europe, recently discussed Pubill’s future with Levante boss Felipe Minambres.

But, as far as Aston Villa are concerned, Pubill is ‘one for the future’, rather than a player to be brought in during the final month of the current window.

Aston Villa put Marc Pubill on backburner

The Spain U19 international only celebrated his 20th birthday a few weeks ago, after all. And while Aston Villa reportedly believe that Pubill has the characteristics to thrive in English football, a new right-back is not currently a priority with Matty Cash and Calum Chambers currently at Unai Emery’s disposal.

Emery, meanwhile, could also repurpose Ezri Konsa on the flank, after strengthening his centre-half options with former Villarreal ace Pau Torres.

“We are trying to practice different tactical ways,” Emery tells the Express and Star. “And one is to play with Konsa as a right-back, and to build up with three at the back.

“We need to keep practicing different ways we can play.”

Pubill, then, is one to keep an eye on in future windows. The Terassa-born whizzkid, who made his La Liga debut back in 2021, is currently under contract at Levante for another three years. Aston Villa may also be of the opinion that Pubill would be better off staying where he is for the time being, developing his game further with regular first-team football.

Torres, meanwhile, is one of three high-profile signings made by an Aston Villa side who may just be dark horses for a Champions League charge in 2023/24. Youri Tielemans arrives on a free from Leicester City and, in former Bayer Leverkusen talisman Moussa Diaby, Villa have also signed one of Europe’s best young forwards.
