Al-Ahli are reportedly closing in on the signing of Spanish midfielder Marcos Llorente from Atletico Madrid according to reports.
According to a report from The Athletic’s Gregg Evans, the Spaniard is closing in on a move to the Saudi Arabian side.
The Saudi side are set to spend £20 million on the Atletico midfielder as Diego Simeone has reportedly given the green light for the midfielder to make the move to Matthias Jaissle’s side.
Despite being given the green light to make the move, originally it was planned for the Spaniard to be a part of Diego Simeone’s squad for the new season but, after the Saudi side made a lucrative offer for the 28-year-old, it was seemingly too good to turn down.
Al-Ahli have made a number of new additions this season as they bid to battle for the Saudi Pro League title.
Allan Saint-Maximin, Edouard Mendy, Riyad Mahrez and Roberto Firmino have been added to the team, with a move for Marco Verratti also in the pipeline according to L’Equipe, despite Al-Hilal’s interest.

What would the Spaniard offer?
The midfielder has been deployed on the right-hand side at times under Simeone but could well be about to depart from the Wanda Metropolitana.
He doesn’t have much goalscoring prowess from midfield but had an extraordinary return during the 2020-2021 season, where he scored 12 goals and provided 11 assists in La Liga alone.
The former Real Madrid man would be an astute signing for the Saudi side at just £20 million.
With potential interest in Verratti maybe not coming to fruition with Al-Hilal the favourites to sign him, the Spaniard would be a more than able alternative.
His dogged nature as well as his willingness to defend would allow the exciting forwards at their disposal to excel in the new-look side.
