Liverpool have failed with their second bid for Romeo Lavia but may be playing games with Southampton having also targeted Fluminense’s Andre.

Liverpool are looking at other midfielders but their top target remains Southampton ace Romeo Lavia.

That is according to Belgian reporter Sacha Tavolieri, who has been one of the best sources throughout the Lavia speculation.

Tavolieri claims that Liverpool’s second offer for Lavia has now been rejected by Southampton.

A first bid was rejected last week and a new offer has gone the same way, but talks will continue this week in an attempt to get a deal done.

It’s added that Liverpool are now playing game of poker with Southampton by teasing interest in other midfielders.

Liverpool’s focus is still on Lavia but they are now indicating that they could move on from the Belgian.

This feels like a ploy to tempt Southampton into selling Lavia and Tavolieri appears to be indicating as such.

Who could Liverpool sign in midfield if Romeo Lavia doesn’t join?

We’re still expecting Lavia to end up at Liverpool this summer but the Reds will be exploring other options.

There is even scope for Liverpool to add two new faces in midfield given that both Fabinho and Jordan Henderson have moved on.

One key name in the mix is Fluminense midfielder Andre Trindade, with Sky Sports reporting that he could move for £20million.

Fluminense are described as being ‘reluctant’ to sell Andre but he is ‘sold’ on a move to Anfield.

The 22-year-old has been vital for Fluminense, racking up nearly 150 appearances whilst playing predominantly as a holding midfielder.

Andre has shown his ability to break up play as well as his technical ability, showing the quality to be a ball-carrier in midfield.

Andre represents a much cheaper option than Lavia but Liverpool may well be keen to add both for that holding midfield role in Jurgen Klopp’s setup.
