Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has praised exciting youngster Lewis Koumas as he looks to make an impact at Anfield.

Lewis Koumas has impressed Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp even if it’s ‘very early’ days for him around the senior setup.

Liverpool beat Leicester City 4-0 on Sunday as their pre-season preparations continued in Singapore.

Youngsters Bobby Clark and Ben Doak were both on the scoresheet and a number of other talents appeared.

Calum Scanlon, James McConnell, Jarell Quansah and Melkamu Frauendorf all came off the bench for Liverpool.

Lewis Koumas was an unused substitute against Leicester but we did see him feature against Karlsruhe and Greuther Furth in earlier pre-season games.

Klopp has now moved to praise Koumas, telling Liverpool’s official website that he feels the teenager is ‘already there’ physically.

Klopp added that Koumas clearly has the speed and technique to become a real player, seemingly picking him out for a big future.

“Koumas, very early but physically already there, has all the things you need as a kid to become a real player – the speed, the technique and all that stuff,” said Klopp.

Who is Liverpool talent Lewis Koumas?

That surname may ring a bell for football fans of a certain age.

Jason Koumas was a hugely talented midfielder in his playing days, turning out for the likes of Tranmere Rovers, West Bromwich Albion, Cardiff City and Wigan Athletic.

Koumas senior racked up nearly 500 domestic appearances in his playing career as well as 34 caps for Wales.

Son Lewis is more of an attacker but he appears to have the potential to be even better than his father.

The 17-year-old has been on the Liverpool books since his leaving his father’s former club Tranmere at Under-11 level.

Koumas has been superb in the Liverpool Under-18’s, racking up 13 goals and five assists in 19 appearances.

A Welsh under-19 international, Koumas is making real strides at Liverpool and his inclusion in pre-season this summer just shows how highly Klopp rates him.
