Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Giovani Lo Celso is considered an ‘impossible’ signing for Barcelona unless sales are made.

Xavi desperately wants to bring Giovani Lo Celso to Barcelona but the deal is looking difficult as things stand.

That is according to AS reporter Javi Miguel, who claims that Xavi specifically asked for two signings at Barcelona this summer.

Xavi wanted Manchester City full back Joao Cancelo and Tottenham midfielder Lo Celso, pushing Barcelona to sign them.

However, Barcelona signing either of them is considered ‘impossible’ unless some players leave the club.

It’s stated that defender Clement Lenglet – just back from a loan spell at Tottenham – as well as Franck Kessie and Sergio Dest all need to leave.

That means a Barcelona move for Lo Celso is stalling and Xavi may well miss out on the Argentinian.

Lo Celso is back at Tottenham after 18 months on loan at Spanish side Villarreal.

The Argentinian seemingly did enough to impress Xavi but a Barcelona move hangs in the balance.

Giovani Lo Celso could stay at Tottenham but Franck Kessie interest poses interesting option

Lo Celso seemed absolutely finished at Tottenham heading into this pre-season.

The 27-year-old hasn’t played for Spurs since January 2022 and it was difficult to see a route back for him.

Ange Postecoglou has given him a clean slate and Lo Celso has responded in pre-season.

Lo Celso scored against West Ham United and Lion City Sailors, turning in impressive performances in both games.

Postecoglou seems to be a fan of Lo Celso and didn’t play down reports from Spain that he wants to keep the former Real Betis star.

Football London add that Lo Celso seems happier at Tottenham and now seems like a different person to the one who departed 18 months ago.

Spurs may be keen to keep Lo Celso now but the idea of swapping him for Barcelona midfielder Kessie may appeal.

Both SPORT and The Times claim that Spurs are interested in signing Kessie this summer.

That opens the door to a potential exchange involving the Ivorian, but we wouldn’t be surprised if Postecoglou now shuns Barcelona’s interest and keeps Lo Celso.
