James Olley says the rumours that Joe Lewis has told Daniel Levy to sell Harry Kane this summer if he doesn’t sign a new contract ‘hasn’t come from someone connected with Tottenham Hotspur’.
The ESPN reporter added that ‘Tottenham have been available for sale for a while’ and it could be that case of Joe Lewis ‘putting money in the bank’, as he looks to sell the club, as he told ESPN.
Whilst Lewis has been Spurs’ owner for a while, it has been suggested that he has now been the club’s former owner since the back end of 2022.
Either way, ENIC’s name is still on top of the door and there are suggestions that Daniel Levy will meet with Bayern Munich officials to discuss Harry Kane’s future – Fabrizio Romano reported on Twitter that the meeting, for Friday, has been pushed back to early next week.
Given that Levy is willing to meet the German club to talk about his star striker, then that probably hints towards the 30-year-old leaving.
Does it stem from Lewis demanding that Kane is sold? Well, ESPN journalist Olley says he knows where that story came from.

“I can’t say where that story came from,” said Olley. “But I do know where it came from. It didn’t come from someone connected with Tottenham.
“There is a belief among other major European clubs that Daniel Levy is under pressure internally to sell. What is the interesting thing about that is that, if it’s true, and Joe Lewis is putting Daniel Levy under pressure to sell Kane, it might be because they are trying to put money in the bank to try and sell the whole club.
“Tottenham’s been available for sale, everyone has known it for years. Todd Boehly made an offer for Tottenham, before he got involved with Chelsea, and that was four years ago, I think.”

Tottenham at a crossroads
This isn’t great for Ange Postecoglou that he is in a situation where he doesn’t know if his star striker will be at the club at the start of September.
With Kane possibly leaving, changes to the midfield, Hugo Lloris leaving and the whole backline needing changing, then it does feel like the club is heading towards a new chapter.
But what is in that chapter? There doesn’t seem to be clarity. New centre-backs haven’t arrived. More depth is needed at the back and Kane’s future hasn’t been resolved.
