Leeds United coach Daniel Farke has confirmed his interest in Karl Darlow with Newcastle United’s Premier League veteran potentially on his way to Elland Road.
While a talented crop of youngsters such as Wilfried Gnonto, Crysencio Summerville and Joe Gelhardt may find themselves carrying Leeds United’s promotion hopes on their still-broadening shoulders next term, Farke’s secret weapon may be a foundation of rock-solid, second-tier nous.
Leeds still have Luke Ayling, Patrick Bamford, Jack Harrison, Liam Cooper and Stuart Dallas at their disposal. Veterans of Marcelo Bielsa’s 2020 Championship-winning team.
Karl Darlow, meanwhile, secured the second-tier title with Newcastle United under Rafa Benitez, and would provide a further voice of wisdom in a squad under pressure to bounce back at the first time of asking.

Newcastle United goalkeeper Karl Darlow heading to Leeds
Leeds, Sky Sports say, are close to agreeing a deal worth £400,000 with Newcastle.
And while Farke is keen to keep his cards close to his chest, the former Norwich City and Borussia Monchengladbach coach did open up on his admiration for a 32-year-old shot-stopper leaving St James’ Park after nearly a decade with the Magpies.
“We’ll see,” Farke tells Leeds Live. “So, my philosophy is always to speak about business when it’s really done. For that, I have too much experience. It is done when all is agreed, all is signed, and medicals are done.
“What I can say is that we definitely need a support in the goalkeeper position because yeah, (Joel) Robles has left. So we are a bit thin on this position, especially in terms of experience.
“And yes, Karl Darlow is definitely a good goalkeeper.”

Robles departed earlier this month upon the expiry of his contract. Darlow will be expected to take his place, bringing vital Championship experience to West Yorkshire while also providing high-quality competition for Ilan Meslier; the Frenchman having lost his place to Robles after a string of mistakes during the final few months of 2022/23.
