Tottenham Hotspur playmaker James Maddison has heaped praise on fellow midfielder Yves Bissouma.

James Maddison claims Yves Bissouma has surprised him with the level of leadership he provides at Tottenham Hotspur.

Maddison has come in from Leicester City this summer and is trying to establish himself at Spurs.

The attacking midfielder was robbed of a chance to face former club Leicester on Sunday as a pre-season friendly between the two sides was postponed.

Maddison will be looking to strike partnerships in midfield and one could come with Yves Bissouma.

Both are very technically-gifted players who look to play neat football and we saw some encouraging link-up play between them against West Ham United last week.

Bissouma moved to praise Maddison as an ‘amazing player’ and the new Spurs man has returned the favour.

James Maddison hails Yves Bissouma

Maddison has spoken to Football London and highlighted that Bissouma is a ‘very, very good player’.

The England international noted that he has done battle with Bissouma in years gone by but has now been surprised by the Mali international.

Maddison called Bissouma ‘leader’ and he talks a lot, even describing him as ‘very demanding’.

Maddison seemingly didn’t expect this kind of leadership from Bissouma but is loving the influence he has at Tottenham.

The Spurs ace added that there is a ‘brilliant player’ in Bissouma despite a frustrating debut season at Tottenham.

Spurs forked out £25million to sign Bissouma last summer but he managed just 10 Premier League starts last season.

Bissouma needs to kick on under Ange Postecoglou and Maddison seemingly can’t wait to see him in action this season.

“Bissouma’s a very very good player,” said Maddison. “I played against him when he was at Brighton and he probably didn’t play as much as he’d like to have done last season. But there’s a top player in there, and maybe that would have been a good answer for the last question, he’s surprised me a little bit. He’s a leader, he talks.”

“For someone who’s only been at the club for a year and didn’t maybe have the best first season as he would have hoped. He’s very demanding and very vocal, and there’s a brilliant player in there so I’m looking forward to seeing how that partnership can go,” he added.
