Manchester United central defender Harry Maguire reportedly wants to stay amid reported interest from Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham Hotspur.

The Sun reported interest from Tottenham Hotspur this week in Manchester United defender Harry Maguire.

The report claimed that Chelsea, West Ham United and Newcastle United are also keen on the £200,000-a-week England international central defender.

The Sun claimed that the 30-year-old was ready to move away from Old Trafford after being told by Red Devils manager Erik ten Hag that he is no longer the team captain.

However, talkSPORT host Sam Matterface has now claimed that he has been reliably informed that Maguire wants to stay at Old Trafford and fight for his place in the starting lineup.

Matterface has reported that Maguire has “told everybody that he’s going to knuckle down and work for the team”.

The well-known and well-respected commentator has added that “Erik ten Hag has told him privately that he doesn’t want him to leave, he just wants to pick his own captain”.

Matterface said that Chelsea, Newcastle and West Ham have shown interest in the 30-year-old.

Tottenham Hotspur could still sign Harry Maguire from Manchester United

In our opinion, Tottenham Hotspur could be able to sign Harry Maguire from Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

Just because the former Leicester City star wants to stay at Old Trafford for the time being does not mean that he could not change his mind in the coming weeks.

In the coming weeks, Maguire could well realise that he would be a bit-part player for the Red Devils next season.

That could make him really consider his options, especially with a place in the England team at stake.

Tottenham will be aiming to finish in the top four of the Premier League table next season and would be a good club for Maguire to play for.
