Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United are now reportedly about to beat Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea to Southampton defender Tino Livramento.

The Guardian has reported that Newcastle United are about to sign former Chelsea right-back Tino Livramento from Southampton in the summer transfer window.

The report has claimed that Southampton, who will play in the Championship next season after getting relegated from the Premier League, are close to selling “Livramento to Newcastle for about £30m”.

The Guardian has claimed that “Chelsea inserted a buyback clause when they sold Livramento” to Southampton, but the 20-year-old is now “expected” to join Newcastle instead.

The Daily Mail claimed earlier this month that Chelsea were in talks with Southampton over a potential deal for the England Under-21 international.

Newcastle United a better club than Chelsea for Tino Livramento

In our opinion, Newcastle United are a better option than Chelsea for Southampton right-back Tino Livramento.

Chelsea are a bigger club and a global brand, but the Blues selling him to Southampton in 2021 showed that they did not have much faith in him.

Described as “absolutely fantastic” by former Arsenal and Southampton player Theo Walcott in talkSPORT in November 2021 Livramento has demonstrated during his time at the Saints what he is capable of.

The England Under-21 international is a very good and dynamic right-back who would get better and improve further if he continues to play regularly.

And he could do that at Newcastle, who are going places under owners, Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) and manager Eddie Howe.

True, Kieran Trippier is the number one right-back at Newcastle at the moment, but the former Tottenham Hotspur star is 32 now.

Harrison Ashby moved to Newcastle from West Ham United in the January transfer window, but he is only 21, and Livramento should feel confident about playing ahead of him in the team.

Reece James is one of the best right-backs around, and Chelsea have also signed Malo Gusto.
