Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane reportedly thought that he was going to join Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United in the summer transfer window.

According to journalist Miguel Delaney in The Independent, Manchester United want(ed) to sign Harry Kane from Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur.

Delaney has written in his Reading the Game newsletter (12:31pm, July 21, 2023) that Kane’s camp felt earlier this summer that the striker was going to move to Old Trafford.

However, the Red Devils do not want to pay what Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy wants for the England international.

Bayern Munich are now reportedly trying to get a deal done with Tottenham for the 29-year-old striker, who is on £200,000-a-week (TalkSPORT) salary at the moment.

Delaney wrote: “At the start of the summer, some well-informed sources insist, the Harry Kane camp felt a move to Manchester United was very much on. 

“It was just that the Old Trafford hierarchy very quickly balked at the idea of dealing with Daniel Levy, which explains the current pursuit of Rasmus Hojlund.

“Now, Bayern Munich think a move for Kane is very much on. There are people speaking as if this is almost certainly going to happen before the summer is out. 

“As one of the same sources said, though, ‘Bayern have no experience of dealing with Daniel’.

“The main problem here is that nobody wants to pay more than £60m for someone with a year left on his contract, and Bayern have already gone beyond that. Tottenham Hotspur still want much more.”

We do not think that Harry Kane should try to force a move to Manchester United or Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

Kane is out of contract at Tottenham next summer, so he could just leave the North London club on a free transfer then and command a huge salary at his next club.

The striker will turn 30 later this month and is still at the top of his game.

Kane is one of the best and most prolific strikers in the world.

There will be clubs after Kane next summer as well.

Kane has a very good relationship with Tottenham and the North London club’s fans.

There is no need for the striker to damage that by trying to force a move now.

Kane has made 320 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.

The Englishman has scored 213 goals and given 46 assists in those games.
