Udinese’s rising star James Abankwah labelled Tottenham Hotspur youngster Destiny Udogie as a ‘big player’ on Instagram after he featured and scored during his side’s opening pre-season game defeat to West Ham United on Tuesday.
The 20-year-old came off the bench for Ange Postecoglou’s side in Australia and, at the time, equalised, before West Ham would go on to win the game.
Last summer, Tottenham signed Destiny Udogie before loaning him back out to Udinese, with fans hopeful that he will now play at left-back ahead of the new season.
He has got off to a great start by getting on the scoresheet, but a lot will also depend on what Spurs do with their current crop of players.
Sergio Reguilon, who is returning from his own loan spell, started at left-back against the Hammers. Will he stay? Then there is the experience of Ivan Perisic.
Nonetheless, this is the following message Udogie posted on Instagram, with the player lauded in the comments section by his teammates, including Abankwah calling him a ‘big player’ in the comments section.
“Delighted to play my first game and score my first goal for this club,” said Udogie. “Let’s keep working.”

Udogie deserves his chance
In truth, Tottenham’s whole backline needs cleaning up and left-back is one area that needs changing ahead of the new Premier League season.
Ryan Sessegnon can’t stay out of the treatment room, Perisic, at the age of 34, should be moved on, whilst Reguilon hasn’t been able to get going since his move from Real Madrid.
Therefore, it would be right to go into the new season with Udogie front and centre of Postecoglou’s plans because it would be a shame to see him loaned out again.
