Chelsea are set to make an improved offer for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo in the coming days after they saw their first offer for the Ecuadorian, believed to be in the region of £70 million, rejected.

That’s according to Simon Jones of the Daily Mail who claims that the Blues are set to increase their offer for the midfielder to £80 million plus add-ons and it is hoped that Brighton will be more amenable with Chelsea.

The player is close to agreeing personal terms with the Blues but the Eagles are said to be demanding £30 million more than Chelsea’s most recent offer of £70 million, this is reportedly due to Declan Rice’s £105 million move to Arsenal.

Caicedo, upon the signing of his new four-year contract following interest from Arsenal in January, was assured that he would be granted a move away from the Amex Stadium and Chelsea is said to be a dream move for the 21-year-old.

Fofana injury forces a rethink

It was officially announced yesterday by the West London club that Wesley Fofana has had anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction surgery, after suffering another injury.

The Frenchman has suffered the second serious injury of his career at the age of just 22, and it is expected that this new injury could keep him out for the majority of next season.

With that in mind, the same report from the Mail claims that Chelsea are exploring centre-back options following the injury to the Frenchman. Pochettino, however, is hopeful Fofana could be back before the end of the season.

“I hope yes, he can be ready to play,” Pochettino said on Chelsea’s US tour. “We know very well it is difficult. Different bodies, different physiological people. He is evolving in a different way. We hope everything is going well with his recovery and he can be ready before the end of the season.”
