West Ham United are hoping to sign midfielder Conor Gallagher from Chelsea with positive talks now being held.

Positive talks have allegedly been held for Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher to join West Ham United this summer.

That is according to Sky Germany’s Florian Plettenberg, who report that Gallagher is wanted at West Ham.

The Hammers are looking to spend on new midfielders after selling Declan Rice in a huge £105million move.

Gallagher is one target and Plettenberg claims that talks for him to join West Ham are ‘positive and ongoing’.

It’s stated that the deal being discussed is worth around €25million to €35million (£21.5million to £30million).

Plettenberg claims that Gallagher can ‘really imagine’ joining West Ham, seemingly showing his interest in the move.

Surely Chelsea won’t sell at that price

This is an exciting claim for West Ham fans, with Gallagher able to bring some of the box-to-box qualities that Rice provided.

Add in Gallagher’s goal threat and it’s easy to see why West Ham appear to be keen on signing him.

There is one key aspect that makes us question this rumour though and it’s the price tag.

Everton lodged a £45million move for Gallagher in January and any exit would surely cost a similar price this summer.

Selling Gallagher for £15million less than that January bid just wouldn’t make sense for Chelsea, especially with the knowledge that West Ham have money to spend.

Gallagher, hailed as ‘fantastic’ by former Chelsea boss Graham Potter, still has two years left on his contract, so it’s not even like the Blues are under pressure to sell.

We just can’t see a deal being done at that price even if West Ham are interested in signing the England international.

It’s hard to see Conor Gallagher leave Chelsea until they sign a midfielder

Another factor here is that Chelsea aren’t exactly blessed with midfield options right now.

Mason Mount, Mateo Kovacic, N’Golo Kante and Ruben Loftus-Cheek have all left Chelsea this summer, decimating Mauricio Pochettino’s midfield numbers.

Chelsea need to be bringing in more midfielders, not letting them go.

Gallagher should have a prominent role in pre-season and we should see him feature alongside Enzo Fernandez.

Chelsea just cannot afford to let Gallagher go without bringing in a couple of midfielders of their own, which doesn’t seem imminent.

We would tell West Ham fans not to get their hopes up on a move for Gallagher, with a deal appearing a little trickier than presented.
