Tottenham Hotspur boss Ange Postecoglou saw promising signs from midfielder Giovani Lo Celso against West Ham United.

Giovani Lo Celso enjoyed a bright cameo as Tottenham Hotspur lost 3-2 to West Ham United on Tuesday.

New Spurs boss Ange Postecoglou took charge of his new team for the first time suitably in his native Australia.

Spurs met London rivals West Ham in Perth but it didn’t quite go to plan.

Danny Ings and Divin Mubama struck for West Ham in the first half, handing them a 2-0 lead.

Tottenham came back into the game as substitutes Lo Celso and Destiny Udogie both scored to level it up at 2-2.

West Ham still managed to grab the win though as Gianluca Scamacca bagged a winner for David Moyes’ side.

Spurs fans saw plenty of attacking football, as has been advertised for the Postecoglou era.

That may suit some players a little better than Antonio Conte’s style and Giovani Lo Celso could be one of them.

The Argentinian came on at the break and not only scored but also set up Richarlison for a golden chance.

Lo Celso split the West Ham defence with a lovely through ball, picking out Richarlison who could only hit the woodwork.

Tottenham posted a video of this chance on Twitter and captured boss Postecoglou applauding Lo Celso for his creativity whilst Richarlison’s run will have been appreciated too.

This is exactly the kind of thing Postecoglou wants to see; Tottenham players on the front foot, looking to create chances and score goals.

Lo Celso ticked all the boxes for Spurs today and whilst there are many rumours about him leaving Tottenham this summer, maybe Postecoglou will have seen something in him.

Rodrigo Bentancur is out injured for a while yet, so there is feasibly a position in midfield left to fill alongside Yves Bissouma and James Maddison.

Lo Celso may still leave but he is staking a claim to have a Tottenham breakthrough under Postecoglou.
