David Moyes’s West Ham United are now competing with Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United for Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka, as the Hammers step up their quest to bring in a replacement for Declan Rice.

According to Sky Germany, West Ham United and Manchester United are interested in signing Leon Goretzka from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

The report has claimed that Bundesliga champions Bayern are willing to sell the Germany international midfielder for €40 to €50 million (£34.35 – £42.93 million)

West Ham have identified the £231,000-a-week (SalarySport) midfielder as a potential replacement for Declan Rice.

The Hammers recently sold England international midfielder Rice to London and Premier League rivals Arsenal.

West Ham United could struggle to sign Manchester United target Leon Goretzka

In our opinion, West Ham United are unlikely to be able to sign Leon Goretzka from Bayern Munich in the summer transfer window.

We do not think that the Germany international will be keen on a move to West Ham, especially when Manchester United are interested in him as well.

Yes, the Hammers won the UEFA Europa Conference League last season and will play in the UEFA Europa League in 2023-24, but Goretzka is used to winning big trophies on a regular basis.

During his time at Bayern so far, the 28-year-old has won the Bundesliga title five times, the DFB-Pokal twice and the UEFA Champions League once.

We do not think that the midfielder would ifind the prospect of leaving Bayern to join a club that are unlikely to even finish in the Premier League top four next season very appealing.

Goretzka made 22 starts and five substitute appearances in the Bundesliga for Bayern last season.

The midfielder scored three goals and gave two assists in those matches.

In seven starts and two substitute appearances in the UEFA Champions League for Bayern last season, Goretzka scored two goals and provided four assists.
