Burnley are weighing up a move to sign free agent Nathan Redmond this summer.
According to Mirror journalist Darren Witcoop, writing on his Twitter page, Burnley see Nathan Redmond as a potential option if they can’t get a deal for Nathan Tella over the line.
Nathan Tella spent last season on loan with Burnley, and impressed Vincent Kompany in his time at Turf Moor, as he bagged 17 goals in the Championship. However, Southampton are reluctant to allow Tella to leave on a permanent basis, so Burnley are now considering other alternatives.
Redmond is available on a free transfer this summer, having left Besiktas at the end of last season. The 29-year-old previously spent six seasons with Southampton, and was a regular starter for the Saints in the Premier League.

Should Burnley sign Nathan Redmond?
Redmond often lacked consistency for the Saints, but he could be irresistible on his day. Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola recognised the winger’s ability. After a clash with Southampton in 2017, Guardiola shared words with Redmond on the pitch. The Spanish coach later revealed that he’d told Redmond “how good a player he is. Last season he destroyed us here…Southampton have some super-talented players, Redmond is so good one against one.”
Kompany will back himself to get the best out of Redmond. The Englishman should flourish under the Belgian’s influence. Kompany will give Redmond license to run at defenders and take attacking risks. The player would thrive in such an environment. As a low-risk free transfer, Redmond could be a very worthwhile addition to the Burnley roster.
Kompany is clearly keen to bolster his attack. Tella would be a very exciting acquisition, but Redmond certainly deserves serious consideration.
