Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers can’t completely rule out a return to Parkhead for Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney.

Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney is a ‘Celtic man’ in the eyes of Brendan Rodgers and a return hasn’t been completely denied.

Tierney endured a difficult season last term.

The Scot went from being Arsenal’s first-choice left back to playing second fiddle to Oleksandr Zinchenko.

There were even times when Mikel Arteta chose to use right-footed Takehiro Tomiyasu at left back over Tierney.

That has resulted in speculation surrounding Tierney’s future with many believing that he is far too good to be sat on the bench.

Newcastle United have been heavily linked of late but there has also been an interesting link to Celtic.

The Scottish Sun reported in June that Tierney would be open to returning to Celtic this summer.

A cash deal was always going to be unlikely but the report suggested that a loan move could be a possibility.

Brendan Rodgers comments on Kieran Tierney to Celtic

Celtic fans are hardly expecting this move to come off but Brendan Rodgers hasn’t exactly calmed down lingering hopes.

Rodgers has told The Daily Record that he thinks Tierney loved his time at Celtic before leaving for Arsenal in 2019.

Rodgers admitted that he spoke to Tierney about Celtic during their time in English football and would always talk about the Bhoys whenever they met up.

That leaves Rodgers saying that Tierney is a ‘Celtic man’ and you can ‘never say never’ about him returning to Parkhead.

“There have been lots of players linked with here with me coming back,” said Rodgers. “All I know is Kieran is like myself – we loved our time here. When I spoke to him down the road in the Premier League, every time we met up all we talked about was Celtic.”

“He’s a Celtic man but he’s at a fantastic club in Arsenal. You can just never say never in football. Who knows what might happen?” he added.

Tierney will just be looking to impress in Arsenal’s pre-season preparations in the hope of impressing Arteta.

Arsenal will be his focus right now and speculation surrounding a departure seems to have slowed down.

We still can’t really see this move materialising this summer but Rodgers’ return and Tierney’s desire for first-team football may just give Celtic hope of a shock deal.
