Stevie Nicol says Bayern Munich’s honorary president Uli Hoeness is ‘right’ to openly talk about signing Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane, but warned that he might have ‘killed the deal’ with Daniel Levy if he isn’t speaking the truth.

The noises coming out of Germany are that Harry Kane wants out and he is open to leaving the comfort zone of the English Premier League for the Bundesliga.

The player himself hasn’t openly said anything, so the Tottenham fans have every right to dismiss such transfer noise, but Bayern Munich board member Uli Hoeness has recently expressed confidence in the England captain joining the club, as reported by Sky Sports.

Some would feel that it’s disrespectful to publicly talk in such a manner, but for Liverpool legend Nicol, they are simply putting ‘pressure’ on Tottenham and Daniel Levy, even though he doesn’t think it will make a difference, as he told ESPN.

Those in charge of footballing matters from the top clubs in England to the elite in Spain, whoever they are, many believe no-one comes across as stubborn and no-nonsense as Levy himself.

So, it will be interesting to see how the Spurs chairman reacts to his ‘world class’ striker being talked about in such a manner, with Nicol defending those at Bayern for their recent actions.

“He is doing his best,” said Nicol on Hoeness’ comments on Kane. “Whilst we are on the subject of buying Kane. Let’s try to butter up Mr Levy, as if it’s going to make any difference to Daniel Levy.

“If you are him (Hoeness), then I think that’s what you do. You try to put some pressure on Kane because you have to assume Kane has said those things. If Kane hasn’t said those things, then that will probably have killed the deal.

On if Hoeness should have put it all out there: “Well, why not?! He is putting pressure on. He is trying to put pressure on Levy as much as anybody else.

“As I said, Kane has clearly said those things, I would suggest. I think what he is doing is the right thing.”

Levy won’t be impressed

It has to be questioned if those in the Bayern boardroom know anything at all about Levy.

Yes, they want to sign Kane and the 29-year-old might be open to joining, but just ask Manchester City and Pep Guardiola how easy it is to do business with Levy.

On a good day, it’s difficult to get a deal done with the English businessman, so if they have annoyed him here then I can assure you, they have only made matters a lot worse.
