Inter Miami have reportedly agreed with Rodolfo Pizarro to mutually terminate his contract to make room for Lionel Messi as a Designated Player.

According to Transfermarkt’s Manuel Veth, the Mexican international has agreed to tear up his contract with Inter Miami as Pizarro now looks set to join Greek champions AEK Athens as a free-agent, with Messi now set to take his DP spot in the squad.

Pizarro’s contract situation was one of the main sticking points for Inter Miami after announcing Messi’s capture. Yet Tata Martino’s side have now seemingly come to an agreement with the 29-year-old and his future at the club, with an announcement expected soon.

Once hailed as an ‘incredible’ playmaker by Total Football Analysis, Pizarro joined Inter Miami as their first DP signing. However, the Mexican international struggled greatly with the transition from Liga MX to MLS, and the midfielder will now be hoping to regain his form in Europe with AEK.

Pizarro’s memory won’t be long-lived in Florida with Messi now set to take the midfielder’s spot in the team and in the payroll. And the now former Inter Miami star will be hoping to get his career back on track in Greece, where the European game could be more suited to the 29-year-old.

Indeed, with AEK also competing in the UEFA Champions League, Pizarro will experience a new side of soccer that few players ever get to feel. With a move to Europe something that could work out well for the midfielder after such a poor spell at Inter Miami.
