Brighton have rewarded Lewis Dunk’s fine form with a new contract.

As reported by football journalist Fabrizio Romano on Twitter, Brighton have handed Lewis Dunk a new three-year contract.

In a summer of change and uncertainty surrounding some key players at Brighton, fans of the club will be pleased to see Dunk’s future secured. Roberto De Zerbi will certainly be relieved that the centre-back is going nowhere. The Seagulls boss has made no secret of Dunk’s importance in his plans, saying “he is a top player…He has to play 90 minutes every game for me. Dunk is not human,” as quoted by The Argus.

Dunk will likely be a mainstay at the back again for Brighton this season.

Why Lewis Dunk is so important to Brighton

Dunk is the Brighton club captain. He has been with the coastal outfit for his entire career, having broken into the first team from the academy in 2010 when the club were in League One. A local boy, Dunk has amassed over 400 appearances for the Seagulls and established his place in the club’s history.

Now 31-years-old, the once-capped England international is now more important to Brighton than ever. Dunk’s leadership qualities, aerial prowess, and quality in possession make him the foundation of De Zerbi’s defence. He was in fine form last season, showing no signs of slowing down, which is why the club will be so happy to have signed him up for a further three years.
