Former Scotland international Kenny Miller believes Kieran Tierney would benefit from swapping Arsenal for Premier League rivals Newcastle United this summer.
A number of months after reports emerged suggesting that Kieran Tierney was likely to be on his way to St James’ Park, the trail has grown colder than an ice cream man’s freezer.
Newcastle United appeared to put the former Celtic full-back on the backburner while prioritising a deal for AC Milan’s Sandro Tonali.
And with The Telegraph reporting that the Magpies currently have no plans to meet Arsenal’s £30 million asking price, the smart money may be on Tierney sticking around for another 12 months under Mikel Arteta.

This will come as a concern to Miller; the ex-Rangers and Celtic striker hoping to see Tierney play regular first-team football in preparation for next summer’s European Championships in Germany.
Newcastle United’s Kieran Tierney intrest cools
“I think he probably needs to now,” Miller tells BBC Sport when asked if the time had come for Tierney to leave the Emirates Stadium. “When he plays, he’s a world class left-back. To play regular football, he probably needs to step away from Arsenal.
“There will be lots and lots of teams that will take him. He’ll have loads of potential suitors. If he’s not going to be getting a game, he’s too good to sitting as part of a squad.
“A move to Newcastle with everything that’s going on at the moment would be a really big step. (Newcastle can offer) Champions League football as well.
“So he’s not going to be stepping away from that level.”
Newcastle had also shown an interest in Antonee Robinson. That was until the jet-heeled American signed a new contract at Fulham over the weekend.

The good news, as far as Miller is concerned, is that Tierney has not allowed his lack of game time at club level impede his performances on the international stage.
“It doesn’t seem to affect his performances (for Scotland),” Miller adds.
“(But) when you’re playing week-in, week-out, there’s maybe just a different edge to your game. I think there’s potentially more in him from what we’ve seen.
“He’s one of our best players.”
Tierney started only six Premier League games in 2022/23.
