Everton are set to sell Ellis Simms to Coventry City – but a late swap idea involving Viktor Gyokeres has failed to come off.

Viktor Gyokeres will not be joining Everton this summer as a proposed swap for Ellis Simms has been snubbed.

That is according TEAMtalk, who report that Simms is on the verge of joining Coventry.

The Everton striker is moving for around £3.5million although the deal could yet reach around £8million.

Everton did allegedly try to alter the deal a little though, asking to sign Coventry striker Gyokeres with Simms going the other way.

Portuguese side Sporting have been working on a deal for Gyokeres but Everton were trying to spoil their move.

However, Gyokeres has no interest in joining Everton and only wants the move to Sporting, so the Toffees have failed in their approach.

Gyokeres will move to Lisbon for around €24million (£20.5million) with Simms now heading to Coventry to replace him.

Everton search for a striker continues amid Viktor Gyokeres snub

Gyokeres would certainly have been an exciting addition for Everton after smashing 41 goals in two season as a permanent Coventry player.

The Swede seems ready for a step up and is of a good age at 25, but Everton will have to look elsewhere.

A striker has to be a top priority given Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s dismal injury record in recent years.

Neal Maupay hasn’t worked for Everton and Sean Dyche simply has to land another goalscorer this summer.

TalkSPORT reported in June that Everton are keen on Wout Weghorst, who worked with Dyche at Burnley.

The giant target man should be available this summer with his Manchester United loan now over but many will question his goalscoring record.

What about El Bilal Toure?

Almeria have claimed an offer from Everton for their Malian hitman, who scored seven times in 20 La Liga games last season.

Toure, 21, is a little raw and inexperienced but Everton may see huge potential in him for the coming years.

Maybe Everton have other irons in the fire right now but it feels like the Toffees may need to take a gamble one way or another in search of a goalscorer.
