Just weeks after his exit from Leeds United, Weston McKennie is now being linked with a move to Unai Emery’s Aston Villa.

According to CM, Aston Villa are interested in signing former Leeds United loanee Weston McKennie from Juventus in the summer transfer window.

The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that Juventus are unlikely to be able to get the €40 million (£34 million) in transfer fees that they want for the USA international.

Borussia Dortmund and Galatasaray remain interested in McKennie, a player Villa also want to sign, having previously tried and failed to bring him to Villa Park.

McKennie spent the second half of last season on loan at Leeds from Juventus and left the Whites when the Premier League campaign ended in May.

Should Aston Villa bid for former Leeds United loanee Weston McKennie?

Weston McKennie did not have the best of times at Leeds United during his loan spell at Elland Road.

The 24-year-old failed to make a huge impact at Leeds and did not excite the fans much.

The USA international made 16 starts and three substitute appearances in the Premier League for the Whites.

McKennie gave one assist in those games.

The midfielder could not always be the imposing figure that many expected to be in the middle of the park and could not rediscover the form that he showed at Schalke before Juventus signed him.

Once Leeds got relegated to the Championship, it was clear that McKennie would not make his loan deal permanent.

Now, just because McKennie did not have a great loan spell at Leeds does not mean that he would struggle at Villa.

Under manager Unai Emery, Villa are going places.

McKennie could be a very good midfielder for the Villans and could flourish in a team who go on the front foot and are brimming with optimism.

After all, Leeds struggled last season and went through managerial changes as well, which made it harder for McKennie.

And let us not forget that McKennie moved to Leeds in the middle of the season, which, again, is not easy for players when they are trying to settle in a new league.
