Liverpool have a new face through their doors in Dominik Szoboszlai and the Hungary captain will have a number of people pronouncing his name in more ways than one.

Former Arsenal and Aston Villa midfielder Paul Merson has built an unwanted reputation for struggling to pronounce players’ names as a TV pundit, sometimes even the most basic of ones, but Dominik Szoboszlai is seriously going to test his resolve next season.

Credit to the Sky Sports pundit, he has seen the funny side of it all and he reacted on Twitter with the following meme and the captain: ‘Me doing Liverpool games next season’.

Perhaps Merson is better off calling the 22-year-old Dominik or hopeful that he has a nickname that is easier to pronounce or the Liverpool fans come up with one for him.

But when football returns in August, you can bet your bottom dollar that the first game Merson is asked to cover for Sky will be Liverpool’s game.

Either way, expect Szoboszlai to be at the heart of Liverpool’s rebuild after they missed out on Champions League football last season.

Szoboszlai under Klopp

The last time Liverpool knocked on RB Leipzig’s door for a midfielder, it didn’t turn out how anyone would have liked, including Klopp himself.

But Szoboszlai will be hoping that he doesn’t end up in a situation where he leaves Anfield on a free transfer and signs for Weder Bremen.

That’s the scenario Naby Keita finds himself in, who just didn’t live up to expectations on Merseyside, but his problem was that he didn’t hit the ground running, which is something Szoboszlai has to do.

If the attack-minded midfielder makes his mark early, then life will be a lot easier for him as he tries to settle into life in England.
