West Ham United defender Ben Johnson wants more first-team action amid strange links with a move to Arsenal.

Ben Johnson is eyeing a summer move away from West Ham United after bizarre rumours surrounding an Arsenal switch.

That is according to The Athletic, who claim that Johnson wants more first-team opportunities.

The 23-year-old is currently third choice right back at West Ham and could leave this summer.

Johnson is entering the final year of his contract and a departure would probably make sense for all parties.

Johnson started just nine Premier League games this past season and 16 in the 2021-22 campaign.

The minutes are decreasing for Johnson and you could hardly blame him for feeling that he is now stalling at West Ham.

Premier League clubs will surely have an interest in Johnson but a move to Arsenal seems completely bizarre.

Ben Johnson to Arsenal just doesn’t add up

Arsenal are currently pushing to land West Ham midfielder Declan Rice in a club-record deal.

That move looks set to be completed this week with everything in place for Rice to make the switch to North London.

Yet there have been strange rumours linking Johnson with a move to follow Rice to Arsenal.

The Sun reported just a couple of days ago that Arsenal were interested in taking Johnson to the Emirates Stadium.

It was suggested that Arsenal had registered an interest in signing Johnson during talks over the payment plan for Rice.

Arsenal allegedly view Johnson as a backup right back option and West Ham are expecting to sell this summer.

Arsenal appear to be bringing in Jurrien Timber, who can play at right back if needed, whilst there are also links to RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Henrichs.

Signing Johnson would be a huge shock and wouldn’t give the West Ham talent what he wants – regular playing time.

That’s a move we can’t see happening at all, but we do think Johnson will be on the move as he looks to kickstart his career away from East London.
