Mason Mount may now be on his way to Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United, but the Chelsea midfielder reportedly fancied a move to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool initially.
According to LondonsFirst, Liverpool was Mason Mount’s “preferred option” before Manchester United agreed a deal with Chelsea for the midfielder in the summer transfer window.
“Liverpool was Mount’s preferred option and Fewings was known to have good connections inside Liverpool,” states the report.
“It is understood though that Manchester United offered the best financial package and it could be the case that Liverpool also had troubles in negotiations with Mount’s side, but this is just a theory.”
Sky Sports have reported that United will pay an initial £55 million to Premier League rivals Chelsea for the services of Mount.

Mason Mount better at Liverpool or Manchester United?
In our opinion, Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount could flourish at Manchester United, just as he would have at Liverpool if he were going to Anfield.
Mount is a very good and dynamic midfielder who is brilliant on the ball and works hard off it.
The England international had a good passing range and can also drive the team forward.
True, Mount did not have the best of times last season, but not many Chelsea players did.
Both Liverpool and Manchester United are big clubs and global brands who play progressive and attacking football.
We do not think that Mount is making a mistake by moving to United instead of to Liverpool this summer.
Mount has made 129 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
The midfielder has scored 27 goals and given 22 assists in those games.
