Craig Burley says he ‘isn’t 100% convinced’ by Tottenham Hotspur’s call to sign James Maddison from relegated Leicester City.

The former Scotland international was asked who, from the Premier League’s top six teams, has made the best deal this summer.

From Mason Mount to Manchester United to Sandro Tonali heading to Newcastle United, he opted to pick Declan RIce’s rumoured move to Arsenal.

But when James Maddison’s name was brought up, he expressed doubt about that transfer, as he told ESPN

Given that Spurs have sold Harry Winks to Leicester for £10 million, then their £40 million deal for Maddison is a pretty good deal.

That is the view of the majority of the Spurs fans, but one pundit had a differing view.

“Not Mason Mount,” said Burley on the best signings from the PL’s top six teams. “Good player, but not him. He’s a good player (Mac Allister to Liverpool).

“Maddison? Erm, not 100% convinced on it. Newcastle? Tonali. A good player, but it goes back to Rice. It’s not an English thing because I am Scottish.”

Maddison will thrive under Postecoglou

There was a lot of pressure on Daniel Levy’s shoulders once the 2022/23 season finished, but it’s fair to say, he is doing his talking in the market.

He has brought in an attack-minded manager in Ange Postecoglou, he has brought in a number one goalkeeper to replace Hugo Lloris and sorted out their creative issues with Maddison.

Plus, Harry Kane is still at the club, even though there is a lot of noise around his name this summer
