Dominik Szoboszlai is heading to the Premier League ahead of his transfer to Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool and his move has got the seal of approval from his RB Leipzig teammate, Josko Gvardiol.

Fabrizio Romano posted on his Instagram that Dominik Szoboszlai has put ‘pen to paper’ on a five-year contract at Anfield after Liverpool triggered the £60 million release clause in his RB Leipzig contract.

That Instagram post, which you can see below, was liked by Josko Gvardiol, who could join his current club teammate in the Premier League this summer, with Manchester City keen to sign the hard-hitting centre-back.

Liverpool are sorting their midfield out

After a season of decline, which saw Liverpool miss out on a top-four finish and secure a Europa League place, the club aren’t messing about in sorting out their midfield.

It was a big reason why they struggled so much last season, so with Alexis Mac Allister already through the doors, this deal for Szoboszlai could be another statement signing by the club.

European football expert and Bundesliga commentator Kevin Hatchard certainly thinks so and he has labelled the Hungarian captain as a player with ‘a lot of potential’ and someone who is ‘lovely to watch’, as he posted on Twitter.

Does Szoboszlai start straight away?

It wouldn’t be a surprise if he does start Liverpool’s opening Premier League game of the 2023/24 season against Chelsea because others haven’t had much to shout about.

Thiago Alcantara is injury-prone and he hasn’t performed on a consistent basis in over 12 months, Jordan Henderson is 33, Szoboszlai and Mac Allister should now push ahead of Harvey Elliott and Curtis Jones, whilst Fabinho needs to get his act together or he will be warming the bench a lot next season.

Either way, with players not even back for pre-season, this is a very good start to the summer transfer window for the Reds and there might be more to come.
