Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino personally wants to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez, a player Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal sold in 2020.

Mauricio Pochettino wants former Arsenal goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez at Chelsea

According to Football Transfers, Chelsea are interested in signing Emiliano Martinez from Premier League rivals Aston Villa in the summer transfer window.

The report has claimed that new Chelsea head coach Mauricio Pochettino is “keen on” the 2022 World Cup winner with Argentina.

Manchester United are also reported to be interested in Martinez, who struggled to make a huge impact at Chelsea’s London rivals Arsenal.

Flourishing after Arsenal exit

The 30-year-old hardly played for Arsenal until his final season at the North London club when he got the chance due to injury to Bernd Leno.

However, once Leno got fully fit, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta decided to reinstate the German as his number one goalkeeper, who has since left the Gunners

And Martinez left for Premier League rivals Villa in a £17 million (Sky Sports) deal in the summer of 2020.

The goalkeeper has really flourished since leaving Arsenal for Villa.

Martinez won the the 2021 Copa America and the 2022 Qatar World Cup with Argentina and is now one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

There is no surprise that Pochettino wants to bring his Argentine compatriot to Chelsea, especially after Edouard Mendy left.

We believe that Martinez is ready to make the move to a bigger club, and joining Chelsea would show just how much he has improved and developed since his time at Arsenal.
