Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea are now reportedly about to make a move for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

According to Sky Italia journalist Massimo Marianella, Chelsea are interested in signing Victor Osimhen from Napoli in the summer transfer window.

The Italian journalist has reported that Chelsea are about to make contact with Serie A champions Napoli over a potential deal for Osimhen.

Marianella has added that Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the 24-year-old Nigeria international striker.

The journalist told Tuttonapoli, as translated by The Daily Mail: “In the last few hours in England they say that even Chelsea are about to make a phone call to Napoli for Osimhen.

“It seems that one door is closed, which is that of Real Madrid, the two most open to catch a striker remain Manchester United and PSG. At that point, a place would also open up at Tottenham.”

Victor Osimhen would be brilliant for Chelsea

In our opinion, Napoli striker Victor Osimhen would be a brilliant signing for Chelsea in the summer transfer window.

The Nigerian is one of the best strikers around, and he is still 24.

Chelsea do need to sign a new striker this summer, and Osimhen does fit the bill.

The Napoli no. 9 scored 26 goals and gave four assists in Serie A and scored five goals in the UEFA Champions League last season.

During the 2021-22 campaign, Osimhen scored 14 goals and gave two assists in 23 Serie A starts and scored four goals in three UEFA Europa League starts for Napoli.

Described as “incredible” by former Liverpool and Manchester City striker Mario Balotelli on Instagram in May 2023, Osimhen could be able to make an immediate impact at Chelsea.

However, there are two major issues in regard to a potential transfer.

First of all, would Chelsea be able to afford Osimhen?

True, the striker’s £93,000-a-week (SalarySport) wages are not massive, but Napoli want €180 million (£154.40 million) in transfer fees for the 24-year-old, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

Secondly, would the striker himself be keen on a move to a Chelsea team who will not play in the UEFA Champions League and are unlikely to challenge for the Premier League title next season?
