Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United could make a move for Arthur Melo, who failed to make an impact in the Premier League when he was at Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool.

According to TuttoJuve, Newcastle United are interested in signing former Liverpool loanee Arthur Melo from Juventus in the summer transfer window.

The report in the Italian news outlet has claimed that Newcastle are ready to make a move and could ask for a loan deal with a view to making it permanent at the end of next season.

Juventus could part company with the Brazil international midfielder for a loan fee of €5 million (£4.30 million), with the move becoming permanent for a further €20 million (£17.20 million) in the summer of 2024.

Newcastle would also have to cover Arthur’s £126,000-a-week (SalarySport) salary in full, according to the report.

Newcastle United should not sign former Liverpool loanee Arthur Melo

In our opinion, Newcastle United should not sign former Liverpool loanee Arthur Melo from Juventus in the summer transfer window, especially now that they are about to bring in Sandro Tonali from AC Milan.

While Arthur is a good player, he failed to make a huge impact at Juventus following his move from Barcelona and then struggled badly during his loan spell at Liverpool last season.

The former Barcelona midfielder was able to play only 13 minutes in the UEFA Champions League for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Arthur could not make a single appearance in the Premier League.

True, there were fitness issues, but that Arthur, 26, could not get into the team when he was fit is concerning.

The midfielder has not played for an entire season, so it would be a massive risk for Newcastle to bring him in and hope that he gets back to his best.
