Wolfsburg defender and reported Liverpool target Micky Van de Ven admits he is aware of speculation linking him with Premier League giants Tottenham Hotspur.

Following Clement Lenglet’s return to Barcelona, Spurs are stepping up their pursuit of a new left-sided centre-half Bayer Leverkusen’s Edmond Tapsoba appears the most likely acquisition as things stand, but he is not the only Bundesliga-based southpaw on the radar.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Tottenham Hotspur are also admirers of Wolfsburg’s Micky Van de Ven. One of the quickest players in the whole of Germany’s top flight, Van de Ven’s pace, awareness and ball-playing ability should tick a lot of boxes for a Spurs side expected to play a more proactive style under former Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou.

“I have been forwarded it. I have seen it,” Van de Ven told Voetbal International when the subject of Spurs’ interest was brought up during the ongoing U21 European Championships.

“(The interest) goes through my agent now. If serious things come up, he will call me.”

While Van de Ven was reluctant to give too much away, the 22-year-old has spoken far more openly in the very recent past about a potential move away from Wolfsburg’s Volkswagen Arena.

“I am very good at Wolfsburg, so I don’t mind staying at Wolfsburg for another year. But if I get a chance to leave, I would like to,” the former Volendam man said earlier this month.

“Of course, I read everything (the speculation). I have good contact with my agent, so I know what’s going on. I’ll see where it will lead.

“Hopefully, (a big transfer after the U21 Euros) would be nice. The Premier League? Maybe, yes. Who knows.”

Van de Ven captained the Netherlands youth team during the recent 0-0 draw with Belgium.

Liverpool could have an advantage over Tottenham in pursuit of his £35 million-rated signature, however. Jorg Schmatdke, Liverpool’s new sporting director, was the one who brought Van de Ven to Wolfsburg in the first place back in 2021.
